Why Prong and Choke Collars Are Not Good for Dog Park Visitors

What is the latest in "doggie fashion" at the South Euclid Dog Park?

Simple buckle or snap collars are in high fashion at the South Euclid Dog Park. While playing with others, your dog will be most comfortable in a simple collar without prongs or large amounts of metal.

When playing, many dogs like to wrestle and may get their teeth caught in a metal prong or choke collar. That could result in an expensive trip to the doggie dentist. Dogs have also been known to suffocate and die if a choke collar or prong collar gets stuck in another dog's mouth while playing. Even if your dog is not a wrestler, if he or she is wearing a prong collar and falls hard on the ground, it could result in the prongs tearing into your dog's neck. Again, an expensive trip to your local veterinarian.

The simple nylon or leather buckle collars are best for dog park play. These allow you to gain control of your dog should a problem arise, yet will not injure or kill your dog or his/her doggie friends while playing.

For your dog's safety and the safety of the other dogs at the park, please remove choke and prong collars before entering.
